I made this piece during our first eclipse this year, on January 5 2019, in the sign of Capricorn mingling with our sage Saturn—the process was a meditation in understanding all that has fallen away in the ongoing, slow and steady path toward realizing a dream. In the evening as I was polishing it, I began thinking of a spotted owl with how the hammer dappled the bird shape on the pendant. Then when I was finished and getting ready for bed, I went outside to say goodnight to the new moon, the stars, any animals I heard, the freezing air. An owl began talking in a tree right above me and he stayed there for a good half hour just hooting away. Owls are dream messengers that can help us see the wisdom of the unknown places we may find ourselves, they are a reminder that sight is available even in the dark.
A teardrop of kyanite sits in the heart of the bird. Kyanite is said to be a master in cleansing any negative energy that comes to us, it can do this over and over again without needing to be washed. It is ever renewing! Hanging in the bird’s clutch is a mother of pearl and I like to think of this as the gem that we find sitting in the dirt when all that is not needed has been dug away.
May we carry the diamond of our dream ever upward, with vision that is not thwarted by diversion!
Chain length is 22” with a 2” extender chain.
All sterling silver, with kyanite and mother of pearl.
The last image is a raven who visited while I was taking photos of this necklace.
A little extra bird magic for you.
